Saturday

It’s up early, boots on and saddle up as today starts with a spectacular riding experience. The Northumberland Coast provides the perfect horse-riding adventure for all abilities with miles of quiet county lanes, golden sands, bridleways and open countryside. There are an abundance of horse-riding facilities throughout Northumberland so wherever you’re based you’re sure to find somewhere that’s fits into your plans.

After a couple of hours on horseback you’re sure to have built up an appetite, either that or in need of comfortable seat. One option is to head for the Bamburgh Castle Inn, which offers delicious home cooked food with a sea view – it’s sure to be a recipe for success.

Or for those of you with a sweet tooth look out for the Well House Coffee Shop. This ‘Olde Worlde’ little gem is perfect for a light snack to tingle the taste buds.

Spend the afternoon at one of Northumberland’s iconic Castles that ooze history from their walls. Two to keep in mind are Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle. You may be more familiar with Alnwick Castle which is known as the Windsor of the North due to its starring role as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Spending the afternoon at the Castle is the perfect family outing, with a number of activities to enjoy. For example you can learn the fighting skills of a knight or the craft of an archer or simply enjoy the displays of the bird handelrs. Whatever you decide to do, you’re sure to have a fun time doing it.

Saturday evening

Whether you’re looking for an a la carte menu, a gastro pub or a quite bistro for some super, Northumberland has it all.

For a unique family dining experience that you’ll all enjoy head to the Treehouse Restaurant. It’s called the Treehouse as it’s high up in the tree tops. The menus highlight quality and taste with dishes changing from season to season. Be sure to sample the speciality fish dishes which are sure to impress.

After an action packed day and a delightful meal, head back to your accommodation for a well deserved rest.

Sunday

Enjoy a lie and start the day with a hearty breakfast, you’ll have the option of either a homemade breakfast in your self-catering accommodation or to head to one of the local pubs where all the cooking and cleaning is taken care of. Once fed and watered, it’s time to start the day which includes dramatic views and sandy beaches. However the Northumberland coast offers much more than just a place to stretch your legs, it’s renowned for its rare and endangered wildlife. Perfect for photographers and animal lovers alike a boat trip to Farne Island is the perfect way to end a weekend away to Northumberland. Once on the island you will be able to enjoy the sights of over twenty species of bird and dependent on the time of year you visit you may be lucky enough to catch a sighting of the grey seals and there pups which use the island as a base to raise their young. Two boat companies run trips to the island which can be found on Seahouses Harbour.
