Walking Routes
Saturday
Pack your rucksack for a day’s walking, there are maps available for a wide selection of routes depending on your ability, from walking part of the coast to walking in Dalby Forest, which has many well marked walks ranging from strenuous hikes to easy going strolls. The beauty of this ancient woodland makes for a spectacular setting, so be sure to pay it a visit. If you’re looking for something a little more sedate then take a trip to the beautiful parkland of the nearby stately homes, Dumcombe Park, Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall all within easy reach. In the afternoon head for the coastal town of Whitby and search for Whitby Jet on the beach before heading off for lunch at the famous Magpie Restaurant for the best fish and chips you will find. After having a rest and once your food has gone down tackle the 199 steps up to the magnificent ruins of Whitby Abbey and St Mary’s Church, whose churchyard gave Bram Stoker the inspiration to write Dracula.
Then it’s back to the cottage to freshen up before heading out for an evening meal.
Saturday evening

White Horse
Sunday morning & later afternoon
Enjoy a ‘lie in’ amid the peace and quiet before having a leisurely breakfast then once packed up, head for Kilburn and walk the famous ‘White Horse’ , be sure to look out for the gliders taking off and flying out towards the Dales.
